Our goal is to not only form a strong customer relationship, but to also establish a healthy long-term partnership with our customers. Jeff Rintoul, an Application Consultant in our Professional Services Department, is one of the many experienced and knowledgeable individuals who help us to attain this goal. Read on to hear about what Jeff has to say about his experience at Sparkrock and what motivated him to join the team.
What motivated you to join the team at Sparkrock?
A combination of the software products, market focus, and the people at Sparkrock motivated me to the join this organization. Sparkrock is focused on serving non-profit and public sector organizations by providing them with meaningful solutions that really improve the way they operate, and being a part of an organization that really cares about their customers and works with them to better serve people that need help is very empowering. I also admire that Sparkrock really hones it on its strengths as a company and uses them to better serve their customers. I have past experience working with a larger software company that really struggled with what they were best at.
How do your career, your passions, and your life come together?
My aptitude for mathematics drove me to study Commerce at the University of Toronto, which then lead to me pursing my CA certification. As a new CA we were always encouraged to ‘give back’ to our community, so I decided to volunteer my time on the Board of a new music orchestra non-profit, which I had served for 10 years. When the technology boom was approaching its peak it completely changed the way companies did business, which then lead to many more opportunities in the workplace. I initially worked on technology projects from the client side, which I enjoyed very much, but I then realized I wanted something more challenging. Eventually, I decided to take on consulting.
When did you know working at Sparkrock was the best decision for you?
After a couple of months of working at Sparkrock I knew choosing to be a part of this team was the best decision for me. From the start I had plenty of opportunities to work with various types of people and several clients. This allowed me to really see the level of professionalism and excellent work ethic that was ingrained in the culture here at Sparkrock. I saw that Sparkrock was a company that really ‘walked the talk’.
What has been your favourite moment at Sparkrock so far?
I really enjoy having the opportunity to take on new projects periodically, as it allows me to constantly learn new things and forces me to stay on my toes. In addition, working in the Professional Services department introduces me to new personalities and business challenges as well as different types of problems to solve. Whether it be with the different customers I work with or if I’m faced with a problem that I don’t know how to solve right away, I have to constantly adapt to new environments. I also enjoy the fact that Sparkrock is a quickly growing company and this means the addition of new people and a constant flow of new ideas.
What do you most enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of my work life I really enjoy giving back to my community through coaching children’s hockey as well as my Board position for a not-for-profit. I have also done a few Triathlons for fun and fitness, but have recently done more cycling, kayaking, and traveling in my free time.
