Sparkrock is pleased to announce that Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board has chosen Sparkrock as their new Finance solution provider. HWCDSB has 57 schools under their board and has an operating budget of over $300 million. With such a large number of schools and staff to manage, HWCDSB had a growing need for more specific features and tools to ensure data accuracy and security.

Their journey to invest in a new financial solution began because of the increasingly complex financial reporting requirements from the Ministry and the need for more flexibility within their solution. It was this need that turned HWCDSB onto Sparkrock. Nancy DeGiuli, Senior Manager of Finance, summarizes why their team chose the Sparkrock solution here:

“We needed a solution that allowed our team to focus on analytics rather than data collection. Our world in education is changing, reporting is becoming more complex, and our data needs to be up to date and available in real-time in order for us to keep up. Before Sparkrock, we spent a lot of time doing manual processes, and I wanted a solution that would allow us to spend less time compiling information so we could spend more of our time analyzing it and making smarter business decisions for our Board.”

Although Nancy admits she was overwhelmed by the amount of features the Sparkrock solution offers at first, now that HWCDSB is in the process of implementing, she realizes her uncertainty came from simply not having them before. By having tools like the Employee Center, Expense Types, and Expense Categories, her team will be able to easily run their own reports and the transparency between departments will also be increased. Another improvement HWCDSB is looking forward to is the calculation of net HST that is done automatically in the Sparkrock solution. Currently they get calls from all of their different schools asking about this information, because in the old solution it has to be done manually.

Ultimately, it was the flexibility in reporting and the unique features, combined with the long standing record Sparkrock has with school boards, and the strong, reliable foundation of Microsoft technology that led to Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board to join the Sparkrock community!
